Location :
Pindari glacier falls in the Kumaon Himalayan Mountain range at an altitude
of 3353 meters. It is located between the snow capped Nanda Devi and the
Nandakot mountains. The Glacier is is 3 km in length and 0.25 km in breadth.
The Pindari river originates from this glacier.
Trekking
to the Pindari Glacier :
Pindari Glacier offers the most interesting and easy treks in whole of the
Kumaon region. The glittering white colour of the glacier with the small
tinges of blue and brown here and there are truly rewarding. Impressive
scenic area and nature packed of exploration treasure is what sets the treks
of Pindari apart from others. Climbing the mountains and being the part of

The best time to to the Pindari Glacier lies between the month of May- June
and September and October. The trekking route at the Pindari glacier takes
you to the pristine village of Loharkhet, you may climb up the excellent
Dhakuri pass and enjoy the scenic beauty, than you go downhills to the
village of Khati, from where the peak lies at the closer distance.
Flora and Fauna around the Pindari Glacier :
Pindari Glacier also holds abundance of flora and fauna in its lapse. There
are variety of tress found in this area which includes the trees of Khair,
Sal, Teak, Haldu, and Shisham. Apart from enjoying the floral beauty around
the glacier you can also also explore the rich wildlife of area at the Nanda
Devi National Park. The park holds more than 80 species of animals. Some of
the major attractions of the area include Bharal, Brown Bear, Common Langur,
Goral, Himalayan Tahr,
Himalayan Black Bear, Himalayan Musk Deer, Leopard, Serow and Snow Leopard.
As you go deep into the sanctuary you may find the rich vegetation of fir,
birch, rhododendron and Juniper. You can even explore the great avifauna of
park such as Grosbeaks, Rose Finches, Ruby Throat and Warblers.
Special instructions :
Tourists are requested to follow the eco tourism in the area. There should
keep in mind not to spoil the environment by throwing the waste or the water
bottles here and there. Carry the comfortable shoes along with yourself. It
is advisable be medically fit before going for the trekking expedition to
the Pindari Glacier. Keep the extra woolens along with yourself. While
taking the photographs do not disturb the animals. Intake only the running
water, otherwise you may fall ill. Keep the map or the tour guide along with
yourself to enjoy the panoramic and magnificent sites.
