Kalimpong

Location : Located at elevation of 4100 ft, Kalimpong is in northern part of West Bengal, and is close to the state of Sikkim.
Climate condition : Kalimpong has temperate climate. Summers are mild, and maximum temperature hardly go beyond 27º C-28º C. Maximum temperature in winters is around 15º C.
Best Time To Visit : March to mid June and September-December

Thing to do
The popular summer retreat, Kalimpong is one among the abundant of hill stations of country. Calling nature lovers from all over, this famous hill resort has a lot to offer its visitors. Cluttered with many of natural sightseeing places, many of the activities like orchid viewing, nature walk in tea gardens, trekking, exquisite flora viewing, and Gompas (Buddhist monasteries) viewing can be enjoyed while vacationing at Kalimpong.

Places of Interests
Flower nurseries : Famous in the country for its diverse array of orchids, the loveliest place to see at Kalimpong is its flower nurseries having hundreds of species of beautiful flowers. No wonder Kalimpong produces 80% of all Gladioli of the country.

Sericulture Research Institute : Located on the road to Darjeeling amidst the full bodied natural surrounding, The Sericulture Research Institute is breed centre of silkworms.

The Golf Course : The 9 hole Golf Course is the highest Golf Course in the world. The rich plantation along with amazing view of nearby hill's view is worth fascinating.

Durpin Dara : Literally meant as 'Binoculars' Durpin Dara in fact acts as binoculars by fetching a breathtaking view of whole of the Chola range of hills of Sikkim. Located at an altitude of 1400 meters, Durpin Dara gives beautiful view of Kanchenjunga, Tiger Hills and gurgling Teesta river.

Gouripur House : Once being the favourite place of one of the greatest poets of India, Rabindra Nath Tagore, Gouripur House let them write many of his popular poetries like "Janamadin". Just 2 km away from Durpin Dara, the house is must visit destination.

Gompas : Abundant of Gompas (Buddhist monasteries) are definitely the prime attraction of Kalimpong. Famous Gompas like Tharpa Choeling Gompa, Tongsa Gompa and Zong Dog Palri Fo-Brang Gompa are worth visiting .

Shri Mangal Dham : The temple built in 1933 is believed to be one of the elegant temples of the country. Pervading in area of two acres, the temple with its magnificence is must visited place.

Lying between Siliguri and Sikkim, Kalimpong with its many of natural and cultural sightseeing places has become favourite among all hill stations of India. Fetching Eco vacationers heaps of opportunity to indulge into many recreational activities, holidaying at Kalimpong is great fun.

World famous for its orchid valleys having hundreds of variety of flowers, taking a stroll in its flower gardens are great joy for nature lovers. Plucking a Rhododendron or Lily, and presenting it to your beloved tenderly might result into allowing you to have some fervent packs. After one finishes up his romance, there are series of Oak, Lichen and Moss trees amidst which one can stroll pleasantly.

Reaching to Gouripur House, Durpin Dara and Golf Course open up plenty of amazing sightseeing view of Himalayan beauty and its rich greenery. Durpin Dara like Darjeeling's Tiger Hills is must visited place of Kalimpong as the sunset and sunrise view from here is thoroughly eye catching. From here (at an altitude of 1400 meters), bird's eye view of Kanchenjunga, Tiger Hills and gurgling Teesta river is very scenic.

Visit to many of famous Tibetan and Bhutanese Gompas like Tharpa Choeling Gompa, Tongsa Gompa and Zong Dog Palri Fo-Brang Gompa are full of cultural and religious insight. These monasteries along with temples like Shri Mangal Dham present a diverse facet of Kalimpong's cultural beauty which it has been preserving since the place was found.

Reaching there
By Air : Bagdogra (80 km) is the nearest airport, taking 3 hours to reach. Flight services of Indian Airlines and Jet Airways connect it to major air locations like Delhi, Kolkata and Guwahati. Taxis and buses are available from airport to Kalimpong.

By Rail : New Jalpaiguri (77 km) is the nearest railway station located on main rail route. From here Kalimpong is 3 hours drive from here. One can hire taxi or can catch bus from here to Kalimpong.

By Road : One can get taxi/bus/jeep at Darjeeling and Siliguri for Kalimpong. The drive on excellent motorable roads passes through beautiful landscapes and takes one three hours to reach.
