Naggar Village

Naggar Village is located in the District of Kullu in the state of Himachal Pradesh in India. It lies on the left bank of the river Beas and about 300 meters above the river. The village is beautifully surrounded by the magnificent mountains, waterfalls and snow covered ranges. The village is known for the impressive cultural heritage and rich architectural style.

History :
Naggar was the capital of the erstwhile Kullu Rajas for about 1400 years. It was founded by the Visudh Pal and remained as the head quarter of the state until the capital was transformed to Kullu (Sultanpur) by the Raja Jagat Singh.

Naggar  Village Climate : Tourists are recommended to wear soft cotton clothes during the summers as the temperature is pleasant. During the winters you are required to carry heavy woolen clothes as the winters are really chilly. You can plan out the trip to the Naggar village at any time of the year.

Famous Tourists Attractions :

Naggar Castle :
Naggar castle was built by the Raja Sidh Singh in the 16th century and was used as the Royal residence and latter as the state head quarters of the kingdom till the middle of the 17th century. Stones used in the construction of the fort were brought fro the fort situated on the other side of the Naggar. The major attraction of the temple is the small wooden temple inside the castle called Jagati Patt temple. Now the castle has been converted into the Tourism Department Hotel. It provides the magnificent view of the Kullu valley.

Temples in Naggar Village :
Tourists can make a visit to the beautiful Gauri Shankar mandir. The temple was built in the 11th and 12th century and according to the historical evidences it is the last great monuments of the Gurjara – Pratihara traditions. Apart from the Gauri Shankar mandir there are other famous temples in the area namely Vishnu, Chatar Bhuj temple, Tripura Sundri Devi, Tripura Sundari and Lord Krishna. Rich in wood and stone carvings these temples are constructed in the Shikhara and Pagoda style.

Roerich art gallery :
Another most famous attraction in the Naggar village is the Roerich art gallery, which houses the paintings of Nicholas Roerich as well as his scriptures. Roerich was earlier the residence of the reputed Prof. Late Nicholas Roerich who came to India in the year 1929. His residence was later on converted into the art gallery.

Naggar Culture :

Naggar Fairs and Festivals :
You can also be a part of the famous Naggar fair held at the amphitheater site in the month of April. Local villagers set up their shop on the fair site. All the families of the village and tourists from outside make a visit to this fair.

Naggar village offers the most exciting adventure activities to the tourists which includes para- gliding, skiing and white river rafting.Whose so ever you are a writer, a philosopher, or simply a tourists; tour to the Naggar village can never disappoint you.

Shopping :Apart from the adventure activities visitors can explore the handicrafts items( can also buy!) made by the local villagers and take them back as souvenir. Some of them include Shawls, stoles, socks, and pattu.
